It’s with great sadness that we temporarily close our Exhibition St store. After an incredibly emotional day with our staff we came to the realisation that it was better to do our bit to keep our staff, customers and family safe by closing our doors.

The Corona virus or Covid-19 pandemic, is taking its toll on all of us. Businesses are closing; people are losing their jobs and life as we have come to know it has all but disappeared. So what does that mean for us at Black Velvet Coffee?

Like many companies, we will be focusing on shifting our entire business online. Thankfully, we already had the online infrastructure in place even though we always saw our online store as simply an ‘add on’, If we gained some revenue from this source then it was a bonus. Now, that thinking has been forced to change and this can only be a positive.

So how are we choosing to look at this? After almost 9 years, we’d become a little complacent, not having to look outside our little bubble. Business has been good and thinking about new ways to improve was always on the backburner. With the current Covid-19 crisis we have been forced to reinvent ourselves and literally start our business from scratch.

Is it daunting? Of course. Does it frighten us? Absolutely. Are we prepared to take on the challenge? You’d better believe it.

In the most uncertain and terrible period of all of our lives, we are choosing, as best as we can, to take this opportunity to turn our little world into something different. To take it in a direction we never thought about and to hopefully, come out on the other side, with a totally different looking business.

Over the next few months, we’ll bring you a range of videos on a variety of topics. These will include coffee making tips, how to get the best result possible from your domestic machine, food recipes using coffee as an ingredient (some of these will surprise you) and so much more. Our plan is to engage with our loyal customers and friends as best and as often as we can.

The coffee roasting side to our business, including wholesale coffee delivery is still going ahead so if anyone needs a home coffee delivery, we are still in full swing. Head to our website blackvelvetcoffee.com.au and click on the big blue button for free shipping.

We’re under no illusions as to the difficulty that we face over the next few months, both as a business and as a society as a whole. Our shop is closed, our staff have been temporarily stood down and we have 2 young kids at home. We are in no way making light of the situation, nor do we underestimate the varied personal hardships that face the community. We are simply attempting to look at this in the most positive way possible. For our business, for ourselves, for our staff and for our kids.

We WILL all get through this. Life WILL get back to normal and WE WILL BE BACK! Whether it’s in a week, a month or 6 months, we will be back doing what we’ve always done at 136 Exhibition St for almost 9 years and we can’t wait to have a coffee with all of you.

We’d like to thank everyone for their love and messages of support and wish everyone the best of luck with their own personal situations as we fully understand the difficulties people are facing right now.

For now, stay safe and be kind to one another.

Look forward to you guys being back at Exhibition Street (even though I’ve moved work, and I don’t visit you guys as often as I used to). Also looking forward to your secret coffee ice cream recipe and maybe a black velvet tiramisu…?
